“In the face of the opportunities and challenges brought by economic globalization, the right choice is to insist on tearing down walls instead of building them, opening up instead of isolating, integrating instead of decoupling, resolutely safeguarding the multilateral trading system, and guiding the direction of economic globalization.” Ren Hongbin, President of CCPIT, said on September 10 at the 2024 WTO Public Forum Symposium on “Building a Greener and More Resilient Supply Chain”.

The WTO Public Forum is the most important annual outreach activity of the WTO, aiming to provide a platform for representatives from governments, enterprises, academia, media, parliaments, international organizations and other sectors to exchange views and discuss the latest developments in world trade and proposals to strengthen the multilateral trading system. This year, the Forum was held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “Re-globalization: Better Trade for a Better World”. At the invitation of WTO Director-General Okonjo-Iweala, CCPIT and the International Trade Center (ITC) jointly organized a seminar on the theme of “Building a Greener and More Resilient Supply Chain” during the WTO Public Forum, which conveyed the message that China is practicing genuine multilateralism, unswervingly pushing forward high-level opening-up, and safeguarding the stability of the global supply chain. China's proposition of practicing true multilateralism, unswervingly promoting high-level opening-up to the outside world, and maintaining the stability and smooth flow of the global industrial chain supply chain.

Ren Hongbin said, the current economic globalization opportunities and challenges co-exist, we should uphold an open and inclusive mentality, and practice true multilateralism. The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has made a systematic deployment to further deepen the reform in a comprehensive manner and push forward the Chinese-style modernization, and China's rapid development will surely provide new opportunities and inject new kinetic energy for the growth of world trade and investment. Building a green and resilient supply chain is an important way to cope with global challenges, and CCPIT is actively building a platform for international cooperation in the supply chain.

“China's position in the supply chain is very important. China recently hosted the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where many African heads of state mentioned strengthening economic and trade cooperation with China, reflecting that China's active maintenance of the global industrial chain supply chain stability and smooth flow as recognized by African leaders.” Teng Bo, Deputy Executive Director of the International Trade Center, said in an interview with the media during the seminar.

The holding of CSCF responded to the expectations of all parties for the maintenance of the global industrial chain and supply chain, and received a wide response from international organizations. Five international organizations, including UNCTAD, UNIDO, WIPO, ITC and ICC, have become the supporting units of the first Chain Expo. At present, these five international organizations have confirmed that they will continue to be the supporting units of the second Chain Expo.

The international organizations all hope that China will continue to play an important role in influencing and make China's voice louder in support of the development of multilateral institutions, and promote the resolution of the current difficulties and challenges hindering the development of the global economy, and they all hope to make use of the platform of the Chain Expo to deepen exchanges and cooperation among the global industrial and commercial sectors, promote the recovery of global trade, and boost the growth of the world economy.
